Sound format examples
- Compact cassette 1/8th inch wide tape
100mm x 84mm x 12mm
- 8 track cartridge 1/4 inch wide tape
135mm x 100mm x 21mm
- Reel to reel tape 1/4 inch to 2 inch wide
3 inch to 10 1/2 inch diameter reels
- Vinyl record
7 inch dia 45 rpm (usually 1 song per side)
7 inch dia 45 rpm Extended Play (usually 2 songs per side)
10 and 12 inch dia 33 1/3 rpm Long Play
10 and 12 inch dia 78 rpm (mostly made with heavier non flexible material)
Note that some pre 1960s records may be one off direct cut, these are much heavier having a central metal core.
